This classic recipe comes from the side of our elbow macaroni box and never goes out of style! Mix it up by adding in some frozen veggies, or some taco season and meat. Or just enjoy the classic as is. J
Makes 5 servings. Prep Time: 15 minutes. Cook Time: 25 minutes.
8 ounces Always Save Elbow Macaroni
¼ cup Always Save Margarine or Butter
3 tablespoons Always Save All Purpose Flour
1/8 teaspoon dry mustard
1/8 teaspoon Always Save Salt
1/8 teaspoons Always Save Black Pepper
2 cups milk
2 cups Always Save Shredded Cheddar Cheese
1 cup croutons, bread crumbs or crushed crackers for topping
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Cook pasta for three minutes and drain.
In a medium saucepan, melt margarine. Blend in flour, mustard, salt and pepper. Cook until mixture is smooth and bubbly; gradually add milk. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture boils; simmer one minute, stirring constantly. Gradually mix in cheese. Turn heat to low and stir until cheese is melted. Add in pasta; mix lightly. Pour into 2-quart casserole dish. Top with croutons.
Bake 25 minutes. Let cool for three minutes before serving
