Happy Holidays from Always Save and this Gingerbread recipe!

Is it really the holidays without gingerbread?! Whether you’re making cookies, houses, or a cake with our recipe below, the spices and sugar of gingerbread flavor are a holiday staple!

INGREDIENTS:

1 3/4 cups Always Save All-Purpose Flour

2 teaspoons Always Save Baking Powder

1/4 teaspoon Always Save Baking Soda

1/2 teaspoon Always Save Salt

1 teaspoon ginger

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/3 cup Always Save Butter

1/2 cup Always Save Granulated Sugar

1 large egg, beaten

2/3 cups molasses

3/4 cup buttermilk

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degree F. Lightly grease an 8×8-inch pan. In a medium bowl, sift flour. Add baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sift again; set aside.

Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat thoroughly. Stir in molasses. To this mixture, add half of the buttermilk and half of the flour mixture, stirring only enough to mix well. Continue with second half of each, mixing well.

Pour into prepared pan. Bake 45-50 minutes or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.

If desired, garnish with whipped cream and sprinkle with nutmeg.

Makes 9 servings.
